Currently performing throughout South Florida while preparing for Summer shows across the East coast, Shauna Sweeney is an emerging singer-songwriter who is passionate about her craft and conveys that enjoyment in every show. She has received accolades for her captivating voice, percussive guitar technique and insightful lyrics from Indie-music greats such as Tom Prasado-Rao, Eric Schwartz, and Grammy Award-Winning Producer Paul Hoyle. With a voice reminiscent of influences like Jewel, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge, Shauna has been honing her musical chops while playing shows across Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and the Palm Beaches with two acoustic-rock bands. She has performed at the South Florida Folk Festival, the Ft. Lauderdale Riverwalk Blues Festival, the Miami-Dade County Democratic Association’s Independence Day Event, and at venues such as Tobacco Road, Alligator Alley, Ft. Lauderdale’s Beach Place and Boston’s legendary Club Passim. Shauna is also the creator, producer, and MC of Tavern 213’s Weekly Open Mic Contest. Having written her first song before she could write down the words, Shauna credits her family and a highly arts-oriented early education for her musical prowess. She recorded her first song at the age of 9, and in 2001, added the acoustic guitar and various percussion to her instrumental pursuits. She is currently playing her original/cover song shows with Miami-based guitarist-singer Ryan Haire. In addition to music and pursuing an elusive bachelors’ degree, Shauna has been active as a freelance writer for 9ine Magazine, a community park volunteer, a YMCA cheerleading coach, a volleyball player, a Pro-4/Go-Kart racer and Track Announcer, and as Vice President of her college class. She has brought into her music the lessons learned during brief stints as an Account Coordinator for a New York-based marketing agency, a clothing store manager, an assistant to the designer of Tie-Dye design company DyeVersions, and of course, a waitress. In the past four years, she has lived in Boston, Orlando, Chicago, and Ft. Lauderdale. Wherever Shauna may be led by her insatiable curiosity, she continues to find her way back to an old cliche—it’s all about the music.
